Master Chief Smith assumed his current duties as the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Command Master Chief in August 2021. His responsibilities include the dissemination and promotion of Navy policies that affect the mission, readiness, welfare and morale of all JBPHH Sailors, Airmen and their families.
Master Chief Smith is a native of the Pacific Northwest. He enlisted in the Navy and reported to Recruit Training Command, San Diego, California in June 1991.
Master Chief Smith’s previous assignments have included: 1ST Marine Division; Camp Pendleton, Calif (two tours); Marine Corps Recruit Depot; San Diego, Calif; Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook, Calif; Naval Support Activity Bahrain; Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory; Mobile Security Squadron 3, Det. 32, Coronado, Calif; Joint Task Force Bravo, Soto Cano Air Base, Republic of Honduras; Naval Medical Center San Diego, Calif; USNS MERCY (T-AH-19) San Diego, Calif; Commander Navy Region Europe/Africa/Southwest Asia, Naples, Italy; and Naval Air Station Pensacola, Flor. During his tour in Pensacola, he was promoted to Master Chief in April 2016 and selected for the Command Master Chief program the same year. Master Chief Smith has completed Command Senior Enlisted Leader tours at Naval Support Facility Deveselu, Romania, as the installation’s first CSEL; Coastal Riverine Group 2 Manama, Bahrain and Navy Talent Acquisition Group Miami, Flor.
Master Chief Smith is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 175/Green), Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course and the U.S. Air Force Phoenix RAVEN program, where he earned his lifetime numeric identifier N95.
Master Chief Smith’s personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (1 gold star), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 gold stars), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 gold stars), and numerous campaign and unit awards.
