Robert “Bob” Kay is a native of LaSalle, Illinois. He retired from the U.S. Navy in June, 2007, after serving 20 years as a Surface Warfare Officer. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and while on Active Duty also earned a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
In the Navy his sea tours were on both the East and West Coasts, the ships being Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigates, Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers, and Ticonderoga Class Cruisers, as well as a Carrier Strike Group Staff embarked on the USS JOHN C. STENNIS. His shipboard billets included Communications, Engineering, Operations, and Training and Readiness with multiple deployments to the Middle East, Western Pacific and Mediterranean Sea.
His ashore billets included the U.S. Southern Command where he planned and executed the conduct of exercises between U.S. Joint Forces and South American Coalition Partners, and as the Range Operations Officer at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) where services are provided for the live fire training and readiness of U.S. Navy, Joint, and Allied Forces, along with testing for major Weapons Acquisition programs.
Since retirement from the Navy in 2007, Mr. Kay has held different positions at PMRF, and is currently the Technical Director. He resides in Kalaheo, Kauai.
