Shenanigans Grand Re-Opening Hosts Sold Out ‘Business After Hours’ Event

11 April 2025

PACIFIC MISSLE RANGE FACILITY, KEKAHA, Hawai`i – The recently renovated, Shenanigans restaurant and bar celebrated their grand reopening and hosted a sold-out Kaua`i Chamber of Commerce “Business After Hours” event on Thursday, March 27, 2025, marking an exciting chapter in its legacy of quality service, delicious food and spectacular views.
Shenanigans recently completed renovations that include new electrical upgrades, exterior doors, a new deck and railing, added storage and fresh interior and exterior paint. The United States’ westernmost restaurant and bar, Shenanigans, is ready to welcome hungry diners.

“We are open for business! With renewed ambiance, we’re excited to host special events, such as weddings, holiday parties or perhaps just a nice dinner for two,” said Fleet and Family Readiness Director, Jeffrey Shaw. “Enjoy great food, stay for the epic sunsets and you can’t beat the amazing whale watching from the newly installed deck.”

Shenanigans has served military members and local residents for more than 35 years. It first opened in 1989 and was originally designed as a combined club for the Navy Officers and Chiefs. Pre-September 11th, it was a popular nightlife destination for the west side community and today it continues to serve all patrons with guest pass access.

The sold-out event underscored the strong and valuable relationships between the U.S. Navy, the Kaua`i Chamber of Commerce, business owners and the local community. PMRF defense spending infuses roughly $173 million annually into Kaua`i’s economy and employs more than 900 residents from the local community, alongside 80 active duty military personnel, making it Kaua`i’s third largest employer and the number one employer for technology careers.

“We are able to stay connected because our team is part of the local community,” said Captain Brett Stevenson during the opening remarks. “Our employees are our family and they drive in to the base every day to proudly serve their country. We want to make sure that relationship endures so that future generations will continue to have opportunities for a career here on base.”

Shenanigans’ long serving local employees like Verna Somalpong with 28 years of service, Carl Hose with 33 years or Erika Burton, who oversees the operations of Shenanigans restaurant, has worked on base for 32 years and along with their dedicated staff have all helped shaped the success of the restaurant to what guests enjoy today.

Shenanigans offers a menu of American and Hawaii-local favorites along with their famous specialty pizzas. Catering is also available for parties and special events. Shenanigans restaurant and bar is a cashless facility and is open for lunch and dinner (only) from Tuesday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is located on base at PMRF, a U.S. Navy Installation that requires security and/or guest pass access.
