NOTICE: PMRF issues boil water advisory, conservation notice after Hurricane Lowell - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY - DO NOT DRINK WATER FROM YOUR TAP

10 September 2026
PACIFIC MISSILE RANGE FACILITY BARKING SANDS, Hawaii - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT DRINK WATER FROM YOUR TAP. Due to impacts from Hurricane Lowell, customers on Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) Public Water System (PWS) 430, are advised to boil all water used for drinking and cooking purposes until further notice.
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.

Boiled, disinfected or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling and disinfection eliminates bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Additionally, the Department of Water, County of Kauai has issued an island wide conservation notice. Please limit water use to essential uses only; such as cooking or sanitation needs and turn off irrigation systems and refrain from recreational water use.

Boiling instructions: Bring the water to a rolling boil for a minimum of 1 minute, cool down and store in a sterilized/disinfected container. Alternatively, customers may add between 1-8 drops of new, unscented liquid bleach with a strength of 5-6% (like Clorox) to each gallon of water for disinfection. Fill a clean container with water, add the chlorine and let the water stand for at least 30 minutes before using. The water will have a slight chlorine odor.

An update will be provided when the boil water advisory is canceled.

PMRF base personnel, housing residents and PMRF affiliates, should continue to monitor AtHoc messages and PMRF’s official Facebook page for updates to this notice and other storm related announcements at https://www.facebook.com/pacificmissilerangefacility or visit PMRF’s website at https://cnrh.cnic.navy.mil/Installations/PMRF-Barking-Sands/.

PMRF thanks base population for their continued cooperation as we work diligently to restore all critically impacted services and equipment as safely as possible.
