Colonel Greg Hammond is the Commander, 647th Air Base Group, 15th Wing, and Deputy Commander, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. In the 647th Air Base Group, he leads 1,200 personnel, five squadrons, and religious services, to deliver the full range of mission support for base, theater, and global joint air operations as required by the Commander, U.S. IndoPacific. As the Deputy Commander, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Col Hammond assists the Joint Base Commander with activating, integrating, and guiding installation support functions. He delivers installation support functions to a 95,000 population while managing a $430M budget and assets worth $55B across 33,000 acres at 12 geographically sperate locations. Additionally, he oversees the quality of life and housing for a community of over 7,000 homes. Col Hammond is charged with directing the joint emergency operations center while maintaining the readiness of DoD’s largest dual-use airfield, 70 piers & wharves, 38 aircraft, and 29 ships. He is also the appointed liaison for the Department of Education, city, state, and federal officials.
Colonel Hammond was commissioned in April 2002 upon completing his Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Brigham Young University. He earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He twice served as a squadron commander. He has deployed three times in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation FREEDOM SENTINEL, and NATO's Resolute Support Mission. Before this position, he was the Military Deputy, Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Infrastructure Modernization and Resilience at the Pentagon.
