Captain Kurtis J. Krug is a native of Papillion, Nebraska and graduated from Papillion La Vista High School in May 1988. He enlisted in the Navy as a submarine Machinist Mate in 1988 and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 2001 he commissioned as an Ensign through the Limited Duty Officer program as a Submarine Engineering/Repair Officer.
CAPT Krug’s Sea assignments include the USS JOHN C. CALHOUN (SSBN 630) in Charleston, South Carolina, USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN 699) and USS HYMAN G. RICKOVER (SSN 709) in Norfolk, Virginia, USS EMORY S. LAND (AS 39) in La Maddelena, Italy, and SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, during this tour he augmented Naval Special Warfare Development Group for a deployment as an Assistant Operations Officer in Afghanistan.
CAPT Krug’s shore assignments include Trident Refit Facility, in King’s Bay, Georgia, ARCO (ARDM-5) in San Diego, California, Logistics Support Unit THREE and Naval Special Warfare Group THREE in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, in Kittery, Maine and Officer in Charge Naval Special Warfare Group EIGHT Intermediate Maintenance Detachment, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
CAPT Krug holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Brenau University and a Master of Arts in Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma. His professional qualifications include Docking Officer and Surface Warfare Officer. He has been privileged to serve on several commands that have been awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, and Presidential Unit Citations.
CAPT Krug is married to Kimberly Krug and they have two children Kolton and Kiley. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and numerous campaign decorations.
